International Forest Day (21st March 2016)
Caritas Pakistan National Secretariat and Caritas Pakistan Lahore office participated in International Day of Forests on March 21, 2016 at Jallo Park Lahore. Event was organized Punjab Forest Department of Government of Punjab. Caritas Pakistan joins hands with Punjab Forest Department to highlight the importance of forests toward sustainable environment and economy.
Event emphasizes common man and young generation to take initiatives and play a constructive role in healthy environment. Government officials, members of civil society organizations, students & teachers of universities as well as schools and children participated in this program.
Government of Punjab acknowledged and appreciated the Caritas Pakistan work efforts for environment conservation and forest growing through different interventions. After a formal ceremony, an awareness walk was also organized on the same venue. Participants conveyed message to conserve forest and stop deforestation through different slogans and play cards. Trees were planted by the participants of the ceremony.
His Excellency Archbishop Sebastian on the vey same day planted tree along with caritas Pakistan team at Bishop House Cathedral Lahore. Special prayer was offered for the mother earth.
Mr. Amjad Gulzar Executive Director Caritas Pakistan said “Its time to save our planet and its people from different disasters and challenge raised from disturbing natural ecological phenomena. Forest growing is a healthy and positive approach toward green clean Pakistan”. He also appreciated Forest Department of Government of Punjab for their different interventions and ensured that Caritas Pakistan always collaborate and support them for sustainable environment.
