Caritas Pakistan honors Volunteers

Disaster Risk Reduction and Volunteer Management Conference brought together around 300 participants and volunteers engagement on Wednesday 24th October at PeerKotSadhana district Jhang organized by Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad. Participant from 10 villages of district Jhang were present including government officials, social welfare, schools, helping hands and DMCs (Disaster Management Committees) and Mr. Amjad Gulzar (Executive Director, Caritas Pakistan). The conference kicked off with interactive theater in which volunteers performed on disaster preparedness, first aid and importance of tree plantation.

A plenary session was held in which volunteers who are also members of DMCs highlighted the flood preparedness techniques. Ms. Shehsan a female volunteer said “CPF has developed confidence in women. They have motivated us to work shoulder to shoulder with men and trained us to manage flood situations.  Now our families particularly men understand and recognize the role of the women in family and community development.” “CPF has shared the techniques to tackle pre, during and post flood scenarios,”- Mr. Musarat Riaz a volunteer shared. He further said that Caritas Pakistan motivated and facilitated communities to plant 15,000 trees in union council.

The District Social Welfare Officer Mr. Azhar Abbas Adil acknowledged the efforts of Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad in different times through relief and development interventions. He assured of full cooperation for any interventions for the development of community. Punjab Emergency Services 1122 representative Ms. Ashgari Praveen highlighted the efforts of community volunteers during flood response and said that “Caritas Pakistan has built the resilience of local community and now 1122 utilize these volunteers which are great achievement. District Bait ul Mall Officer Mr. Riaz Hussain said that Caritas Pakistan is one of the organization we trust a lot due to the transparency and services at grassroots level. We are honored that Mr. Amjad Gulzar Executive Director Caritas Pakistan is here among us to appreciate the work of community volunteer.

“I admire the work of volunteers and CPF team under the leadership of Mr. Aneel Mushtaq for organizing this conference. Caritas presence in the area is really evident of great commitment and dedication for the work of humanity. He further said that I want to mention here that Ms. Shakeela, being a female staff is working in a community where women are not fully allowed to work beside men; she has worked outstandingly well in empowering women for the development of the community while engaging wide range stakeholders including Government officials and other aspects of society. I appreciate her for the hard work and commitment for building resilience in this community,” said Mr. Amjad Gulzar

Mr. Aneel Mushtaq Executive Secretary Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad expressed that gratitude for volunteers, Government Officials, Caritas Pakistan staff and support of National Secretariat team and Executive Director Amjad Gulzar for sparing time and efforts for the betterment of the community. I really want thank volunteers who have been providing services along with Caritas Pakistan in district Jhang. Their presence means a lot to Caritas Pakistan and this type of opportunities are provided by PEACH II project.

The conference concluded by planting 65 plants in order to contribute to the One Million Tree Plantation Campaign of Caritas Pakistan however in longer term it will combat the swelling issues of climate change
