Training on Women and Children in Disaster Situation and Response

Caritas Pakistan conducted a Training on “Women and Children in Disaster Situations” to build awareness about the increased vulnerabilities and protection needs of women and children during emergencies. The session,  focused on gender-sensitive disaster response, child protection, health and hygiene concerns, psychosocial support, and the importance of including women in disaster preparedness and decision-making processes. The workshop aligned with Caritas Pakistan’s ongoing efforts in disaster risk reduction, community resilience, emergency preparedness, and support for vulnerable groups affected by disasters in Pakistan.

The Training also emphasized the importance of strengthening women’s leadership in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) by recognizing women as active contributors to preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. Discussions highlighted the need to increase women’s participation in community disaster management structures, decision-making processes, and emergency planning. Participants shared experiences and explored ways to develop more inclusive approaches that address the specific needs of women and children during disasters. At the conclusion of the session, Mr. Amjad Gulzar reviewed the discussions and appreciated the valuable contributions of the presenters and participants. He emphasized the importance of strong coordination, inclusive leadership, and continued capacity building to improve disaster preparedness and ensure safer, more resilient communities.communities.
