Pakistan Weather Alert: Heavy Rains & Thunderstorms 2026

June 12–14, 2026: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms swept across several parts of Pakistan, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave but causing loss of life, injuries, and property damage in various regions.

In Punjab, rain and windstorms affected Lahore and surrounding districts, disrupting daily life through power outages, traffic congestion, and damage to homes and infrastructure. Three people lost their lives, including a motorcyclist killed by a falling tree in Lahore and two teenagers struck by lightning in Narowal.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was among the hardest-hit provinces, where severe weather resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Houses were damaged due to collapsing roofs and walls, while strong winds uprooted trees and affected public infrastructure.

The recent weather emergency highlights Pakistan’s growing vulnerability to climate-related disasters. While the rainfall provided temporary respite from extreme temperatures, it also exposed communities to significant risks, particularly those living in vulnerable housing conditions.

Caritas Pakistan urges communities to take the following precautions during periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds:

  • Stay indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open fields, rooftops, and tall isolated trees.
  • Disconnect electrical appliances during lightning activity to prevent damage and injury.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
  • Keep emergency supplies, including drinking water, flashlights, batteries, and first-aid kits, readily available.
  • Ensure that roofs, walls, and drainage systems are inspected and strengthened before the monsoon season.
  • Stay away from floodwaters and fast-flowing streams, as water levels can rise rapidly.
  • Follow weather advisories issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies.
  • Immediately report emergencies and damaged infrastructure to relevant authorities.

Caritas Pakistan continues to encourage disaster preparedness, community awareness, and climate resilience to reduce the impact of extreme weather events and protect vulnerable populations across the country.
