Greening, disinfecting parishes in Laudato Si Week

Archbishop Dr. Joseph Arshad celebrated Laudato Si week with Caritas Pakistan Islamabad-Rawalpindi by planting trees at St. Joseph Catholic Cathedral in Lalkurti area of Rawalpindi. Fr. Anthan Ilyas, Fr. Kamran Daniel and Mr. Kamran Sattar Executive Secretary CPIR also attended May 19 ceremony in continuation of One Million More Tree Plantation Campaign.
Another program of Laudato si week was held in 36 SB District Sargodha. Almost 45 people participated. Rev. Fr. Tariq Bhatti shared basic concept of the week and how we can show our love for earth and thank Pope Francis. Faithful were urged to take actions to make a better world for our generations and other God creations. Social distancing was observed while planting trees to commemorate the day.
In Karachi Archdiocese, Cardinal Joseph Coutts Chairman of Caritas Pakistan Karachi requested all parishes and institutions, to celebrate Laudato Si week from May 16-24, 2020. CPK and National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) organized the coronavirus spray disinfection campaign with the objective to protect the worship places from virus outbreak.
The campaign started from St. Patrick’s Cathedral and then visited Hindu temple, Sikh Gurdwara and Muslim Madrasas in Karachi and sprayed them with chemical disinfectants on 17th of May, 2020. The Coronavirus Spray activity was coordinated and arranged by Mr. Shahid Anjum of Shandar Fumigation with their team.
Fr. Saleh Diego, Vicar General and Director NCJP of the Archdiocese of Karachi, said that keeping in mind the inspirational teachings and transforming the social values of Laudato Si, we have to come out of our quarantines and take action for global solidarity. Message of interfaith harmony was convey among different religions, he said.
