FROM TRASH PICKER TO STUDENT: THE STORY OF NAEEM KHAN

Naeem Khan lives in a temporary hut in Bachao Band Goth an area of Unit 4 Latifabad, Hyderabad, Sindh. He helps his father in trash picking to earn livelihood for their family. He always wanted to join other children going to school.

Caritas Pakistan Hyderabad became the turning point in his life and opened a Caritas Community School in Latifabad. Now, Naeem Khan is studying in Caritas Community School and actively participating in every school activity. His parents never thought that he will ever have a chance to access to education.

CARITAS ALUMNI ON A BRIGHTER FUTURE IN PAKISTAN

An alumnus of Caritas Community School for working children in Amritnagar village has won scholarship for intermediate studies in the neighboring Mian Channu city of Punjab province. Jamil Javed, a tenth grader, in St. Vincent High School achieved second position in a series of tests conducted in January 2020 by Aspire College for the selection of students. He used to work as an assistant mechanic at a local motorcycle repair shop.

RAMSHA ASIF (STUDENT OF CARITAS COMMUNITY SCHOOL-GULSHANABAD)

Ramsha Asif of 12-years old girl lives in Gulshanabad with her two siblings and parents. Her father used to work in a factory and her mother was a maid in a clinic.

The COVID-19 has depressed fully impacted their lives, as her father lost his job during lockdown. Her mother was the only source of survival. Due to financial constraints, she was unable to pay her school dues and thus her name was struck-off.

In COVID-19, Caritas Pakistan Faisalabad volunteers and team visited their area and conducted educational survey to enroll their names for education. Now, she is student of Caritas Community School getting basic education there. She is very thankful for Caritas Pakistan team for their sympathetic initiative to support deserving and school dropout children.

SARA WILLIAM (STUDENT OF CARITAS COMMUNITY SCHOOL-RIMSHA COLONY)

Sara William is a 17-year’s old brilliant beautician student of Caritas’ skill training center. She belongs to a lower middle class family as her father was a painter and mother was a house wife. She faced many hardships in daily routine. She was very much aware of her responsibilities being eldest among the children and enthusiastically learned all the skills to be a professional beautician. She was identified by social mobilizer of Caritas Pakistan while door to door visits to raise awareness on the importance of education and skill training center.

She has completed 6 months’ beautician course. During the training her hard work and ability to learn quickly was observed by Shanzy’s Beauty Parlor and was given the opportunity to work there on monthly salary of Rs. 15,000. She is supporting her family now and developing as a professional beautician to earn well to contribute more in family’s welfare.

CASE STUDY OF POSITION HOLDER STUDENT

Samaria Sajid lives with her parents and 2 brothers. Her father was a labor and her mother was a sanitary worker. She was identified during door to door visits by social mobilizer. Her parents were informed and encouraged them to send her to school. She got admission in class 1. She was a regular and a good student who takes interests in her studies. She got 1st position in class 1 exams conducted in June 2021. Her parents were very happy and appreciated the initiative of Caritas Pakistan.
