REEL REGENERATIVE ON DEMAND PROGRAM
Responsible Environment Enhanced Livelihoods (REEL)
Introduction
Caritas Multan, in partnership with CPNS, has launched the REEL Project in Tehsil Alipur, Muzaffargarh District, working with approximately 4,500 farmers primarily cotton growers. Many farmers had abandoned cotton farming in favor of alternative crops due to low profits, volatile market prices, extreme weather events, and pest and disease risks. The REEL initiative aims to revitalize cotton farming by raising awareness about its benefits, introducing modern and regenerative farming techniques to improve yield and quality, and providing guidance on market opportunities and price trends. Alongside improving cotton production, the project champions women’s rights and child labour prevention, ensuring fair treatment, equal opportunities, and access to training for women farmers, while discouraging child labour and promoting education for children.
Key Principles of Regenerative Agriculture:
Soil health: Improve soil fertility and structure using practices like composting, reduced tillage, and cover cropping.
Biodiversity: Increase plant, insect, and animal diversity on farms to create more resilient ecosystems.
Water management: Enhance the soil’s ability to retain water, reduce erosion, and protect watersheds.
Animal integration: Use managed grazing and animal rotation to enrich the soil and reduce the need for synthetic inputs.
Minimal chemical use: Reduce or eliminate synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
Distribution of PPE Kits
Caritas Pakistan Alipur team distributed 42 PPE kits among farm workers in UC Makwal Hadair to enhance safety during agricultural activities. The kits, including masks, gloves, boots, and glasses, were provided to protect workers from health risks such as pesticide exposure, dust, and harsh weather. Participants were also guided on the correct use of PPE to ensure safe farming practices and reduce occupational hazards. Workers from various village groups attended the session. The initiative supports both worker health and sustainable agriculture
